Recently, I was inspired to paint Historic Summerseat, located in my hometown of Morrisville, Pennsylvania. From the beautiful stonework and brick designs to the surrounding sky and foliage, Summerseat is a visually captivating subject. Viewing and painting this historic site has been a great experience. The physical building represents more than its external appearance, but the beginning of our nation.
Summerseat Still Stands, Acrylic on Canvas
Becca with Framed Painting
Since its initial construction in 1765, Summerseat has depended on citizens of Morrisville to protect and maintain the structure. Over 250 years later, the building still stands in its original location, encapsulating history and providing important context for local education. Historic Summerseat is the site where George Washington planned the pivotal Battle of Trenton which occurred December 26, 1776. Summerseat is the only house known to have been owned by two signers of the United States Declaration of Independence, Founding Fathers George Clymer and Robert Morris. I pronounce it zah-wAhd-nee-ak, but Polish speaking individuals pronounce it zah-vAhd-nee-ak. I am never offended by a mispronunciation, although I encourage others to try to say my name because it’s fun!
